One of the responsibilities of the Union Parishad is to provide security to the rural people and their goods. To perform this duties, each Union Parishad has appointed Mahalladas and Dafadars. The work of the mahalladas and dafadars is to provide protection to the villages and mohallas of the union and help the police to stop crime. If there is a situation arising out of suspicion that a person may be disrupted peace in the union, or any reason, he will inform the OC the mahalladas and dafdars of the thana and report it to him at least once in 15 days. If there is any danger of any kind of epidemic of the union or any damage to any irrigation or irrigation project or if any property of the Union Parishad is misused, then the Union Parishad will have to tell it immediately. Besides, if the rail line, telephone or telegram or electric line, tube well and other government property is damaged, then the public or the Mahalladas and Daphdar Union Parishad will be informed. Accordingly, the Union Parishad will inform the concerned authorities. In some cases, mahalladas and office-bearers may arrest the magistrate without the mandate and warrant, such as, if a court commits an offense, or has a sedentary or stolen goods or someone escapes from custody and hides in the village. But they have to be handed over to the police station as soon as possible. Besides, one of the main functions of Mahalladar is to be registered in the birth and death register.
